![]() The payroll to sales ratio (which is dictated by corporate) is so unbalanced that most departments can't afford to have enough people working to take care of all the freight and other tasks and help customers. Also, every department in the store is understaffed & messy. They make you buy your own equipment & uniforms. You are forced to do tasks without the proper safety equipment. Very unsafe place to work (OSHA laws ignored). There's no innovation & a lack of communication from corporate. My store & others in my area look runned down & have an outdated appearance. The inventory system is just awful & counts are always off which led to unhappy customers & you going on wild goose chases for items that might have been stolen by thieves or never came to your store from distribution. Their technology & equipment is severely outdated & constantly breaking down. Lack of adequate equipment/materials to do your job well. Corporate expects a lot from employees, but offers little support to help them do their job efficiently. Another big issue is that corporate penny pinches & cuts corners on everything and focuses more on catching mistakes then improving stores. Micromanagement is a horrible issue with Menards which can be demoralizing & frustrating (especially when it gets in the way of the employee doing their job effectively and efficiently). Also, they allowed customers to get someone fired or demoted when they were courteous & following standard/corporate procedures. They criticize your efforts by being rude to you & berating you. ![]() They allowed blatant examples of favoritism by superiors & verbal abuse of employees by customers & co-workers. Also, there's virtually no positive reinforcement & not very much appreciation for your hard work from your superiors. Management isn't afraid to fire or demote you without valid cause or something trivial. There's no loyalty to the hard working employees. Management uses fear of job loss or threat of demotion to motivate on a daily basis. The company still operates with a top down, fear-based management style where the workers are considered easily replaceable. I would never recommend employment there! Overall, the corporate culture & the terrible management made the working environment very toxic, hostile, negative, and very stressful. All in all, Menards is a "dead end retail job" that acts unprofessional toward employees, doesn't give them the tools or the training to succeed, & think they own you & your time. ![]() Sorry for the lengthy review, but there's "too many issues" to working for Menards. I'm a former employee that quit & left for greener pastures.
